The programs offered at The North Shore Montessori School, adhere to the philosophy and curriculum developed and introduced by Maria Montessori. The classroom environment is enriched with the full range of Montessori didactic materials. To learn more about NSMS, please click here.

The programs are Monday through Friday except Holidays. The school opens at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 5:30 p.m. The first part of the school day begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 12:00 p.m. The second half of the school day begins after lunch (1 p.m.) and ends at 3:00 p.m. Extended afternoon child care then begins and ends at 5:30 p.m.
 


The programs provide extended care services in addition to the basic program schedule. Programs 2, 3, 4, and 5 offer extended hours as well as morning and afternoon child care.

Program 1: The Children’s House

The Children’s House Program is structured for children age two years and nine months to age six. The children are encouraged to learn at their own pace by selecting their own materials, or working with others in a group, or one-on-one.  The Montessori materials are readily available for all children. The lessons are presented in small groups and one-on-one with the teacher.  The role of the Montessori teacher is to guide each child with the appropriate lesson at his or her own pace.  

  • A five morning program for children aged two years and nine months,
    (by September 1st of  the academic year) to age six.

  • The program hours are 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m., Monday through Friday

Programs 2-3-4: The Children’s House: Extended Care Program

After Program 1, Pre-Kindergarten children are offered a more relaxed  academic environment. This program is combined with traditional Montessori materials and other creative activities. When appropriate outdoor recess activities are always a priority.

Program 5: The Children’s House: Extended Kindergarten Program

The Extended Kindergarten Program offers a full work day. The afternoon hours focus on expanding the morning lessons, exploring nature and the outdoors, and  participating in field trips.

Kindergarten students have lunch with their Pre-K friends. After lunch, the Kindergartener’s have outdoor recess when appropriate, and then return to an extended curriculum designed to produce the maximum potential through curiosity, creativity and hands on exploration.

Program 6 - The Children’s House Three Morning Program

A three morning program for children aged two years and nine months
(by September 1st of the academic year) to age six. The program hours
are 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m., Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
